ABOUT ME

I am originally from the mountains of Western North Carolina. From an early age I've known that a career exploring nature's wonders would bring me joy and fulfillment. I've lived in Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Ohio, and Virginia, and at each new home I've spent my time learning more about the natural world and how to share that knowledge with others.

I hold a Permaculture Design Certificate through Midwest Permaculture, lived and worked at a residential semester school with 60 high-school juniors, and lived on a grass-fed animal farm, where I regularly enjoyed milking dairy cows and making butter and cheese.

People sometimes describe me as committed, friendly, group-oriented, and thoughtful. Once I set my mind to a task or project, I don't quit until it's done. I like spending time having deep, philosophical or scientific discussions and making connections between things in our world (once an ecologist, always an ecologist!). One of the things I like best about environmental education is that it is a holistic education--I enjoy helping students learn not only about science, but also about themselves, how to work cooperatively, and how to ask big questions about the world.

My favorite hobbies include knitting, running, playing my ukulele, baking homemade sourdough bread, beekeeping, and reading novels.

EDUCATION

"Our leader, Megan, was particularly on top of the entire series of events, both educational and playful for the kids. She was knowledgeable on the marine science topics both in the lab and in the field . . . we couldn't have asked for a better experience."
